"This cycle will repeat until a solution is found. Maybe an invite-only Ning is the way to go or the ever-elusive ASW. Maybe Web 3.0 is all about tagging people as entities or degrees of separation. i.e. Darren Herman (email, facebook, linkedin, mobile, AIM, in-person) or Ryan Coleman (email, facebook, mobile)."

You could do that, or you could just not have facebook(linkedin+aim too!), and associate with your REAL friends in REAL life, thereby eliminating your pesky problems and preventing your skin and hair from turning white and gray long before their time.

Hey, CL! I protest those who don't use Facebook for the reasons you listed, and I continue to leave mine up, post/tag photos, update statuses, etc. And if I don't think future employers would agree with what I have on there, I don't make my profile public. I liked it better when not everyone and their mama could get on it!

Anyway, a blog topic that may interest you, check out lsulivhawaii.blogspot.com-- the last two posts could probably benefit from your input!

Hope all is well in the Southeastern US :)

I gotta tell you man, I feel the same way about FB. For a long time I have felt that undergraduates (and all of Gen Y for that matter) have lost their niche that was Facebook. I saw my Aunt on there the other day because she friended me. So weird...

There are so many companies I see that have a company "ghost" profile that is just meant to make friends and then spam people with company info or products. My lil bro in my business fraternity took down her page (it's a co-ed business fraterntiy) because she was interviewing with some I-banking firms.

It is obvious that undergraduates have lost their niche, but do most of them really care enough to look for the next best thing? Will there be something that surpasses FB? To be honest, I think the next thing is a virtual world that is niche to these undergraduates. That's what FD World is going to be.
